Are your dreams stuck ?

Feb 10, 2021

Are you the kind of person that says, "I don't need to write my dreams down; I have them in my head."

My question to you, are they really in your head? Are you taking the time to imagine what your future will be like? Or are you merely just thinking it would be superior to someday have them?

There is a difference between wanting and imagining. A big difference!

When we want something, it means we look at the thing we don't have with envy or lack of, and when we use our imagination, all things are possible.

So really think deep: are you wanting or imagining?

I can remember when my mentor said to me, “I know you have been writing down your dreams over and over, and you have books and vision boards, but your dreams are attached to you. You know what they look like because you did the work. You still think you need to get them”.

Remember, your dreams are like your hand, and you don't have to get them; they live right with you.

So I started to invest a lot of time in making more and more use of my imagination. Waking up early in the morning and spending quiet time imagining what it would feel like, smell like, taste like.

If I could have more financial freedom, what would this give me? How will it enhance my life? Who could I help? What organizations align with my purpose that I would like to spend more time and money helping? Would I want to start my own 501 to support a cause that is meaningful to me?

This opened up a whole new world on how I approach my dreams. How serious I take my plans and my ideas!

The other habit I go into was when I wake up, and after, I spend some quiet time in meditation or just being in my journal. When I journal, it helps me get some ideas out on paper to free up space in my mind for other ideas. The other thing it does is allow me to capture my thoughts for later.

Maybe right now is not the best time for these ideas to happen, or perhaps they are meant for someone else. So I write them out. Leonardo Da Vinci is one of the world's most creative geniuses. He was a  sculptor, painter, and architect. One of the habits that Leanardo had was journaling. He said he would journal his ideas to make them clearer not only from words but also through doodling. This would allow his imagination to get more precise and more decisive on what he was thinking about.

When I have thought about doing this work at first, it seems so overwhelming because at first, I would do it first thing in the morning when I just woke up. And it looks like all my worries were on the paper, and I would be disappointed because I would look at it and think to myself, These are not dreams. These are complaints! Especially when I was going through such hard times.

And then, after spending time with my mentors, I realized that it was part of the process. So if you started and got discouraged, I will now give you a little push to pick the pen back up and get started again on writing without judging what it is you’re writing.

As you keep at it and be kind to yourself, if you fall off a couple of days here or there, jump back in it again and start writing from that day. Don't worry too much about what it is you're writing—just pure your thoughts on paper.

Over time, you will start to see how your brain processes your ideas, and possibly you will discover what ideas keep coming up and what ones you should be acting on. This could be one of the most powerful habits I have adopted. And at first, I didn't think much of it. The benefits for me would be clarity, less stress, and knowing more sound decisions.

Here’s my last tip: set your goals. I don’t mean just identifying what your goal is—I mean you have to draft the steps you’re going to take. Join my Goal Setting Workshop over here: https://concreteeducation.mykajabi.com/goal-setting
